Paired it with a Jazz HB in the neck position and the guitar is now competing with my Gibson USA Traditional LP for #1 despite my subpar soldering skills. Great harmonics, nice bite! With gain the pickup sounds great, has a great hard rock full sound. Dial the volume back about half way and you can get nice classic rock tone without having to touch your amp or use pedals. Bass is full and tight. High end is clear and doesn't get fuzzy or undefined with gain. On my LP the coil tap is useful but doesn't sound quite as good as the stock pickup when tapped (Gibson 498). By that I mean on this Les Paul the coil tap is fed through a resister and it's not a true coil split. The stock 498 sounded really nice though the coil tap. The SH16 had a little too much low end to really give you that single coil sound. The pickup looks great on double black too. Easy to wire, and came with mounting ring screws and springs. I matched this pickup with a Vineham v59 neck pickup (a PAF clone). This combo was very useful and the SH16 matched the neck volume and tone very well, unlike the common 498/490 combo which suffers from too bright bridge too dark neck tones. The middle position was excellent much better than I expected. Really nice quack when you turn down the bridge volume and combine both pickups. The pickup has a great all around versatile tone that does hard rock and classic rock. I didn't think it would be as versatile as it is. Mismatched coils and Alnico 5 magnet makes a su rprised me.
