Murphy Lab Heavy Aged finish Mahogany and Maple Construction There's no reason to mess with perfection-this Murphy Lab Les Paul has a lightweight mahogany body and a 2-piece figured maple top, just like in 1960. Marrying two unique woods proves that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Solid Neck Specs The mahogany neck has a 1960 Slim Taper shape, a faster-playing profile than the '59. The fretboard is rosewood; extra-rolled binding mimics the feel of a broken-in Gibson. It also disrupts the evenness of the yellowed lacquer with a wear pattern that matches a naturally aged instrument. Powerful Pickups Nailing the tone of an original PAF pickup has sent some on the biggest fool's quest since Coronado searched for the cities of gold. Fortunately, the Custom Shop is stocked with the type of folk that rise to the occasion. The alnico III CustomBuckers are unpotted, authentically capturing the '60s up to you. sounds of Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney. A hand-wired harness with paper-in-oil capacitors and 500K CTS pots supplies sonic variations; the rest is Historic Hardware The Murphy Lab LP Standard has a stopbar tailpiece, tune-o-matic bridge and Kluson tuners, just like the original. The "reflector" volume and tone knobs and wider "double ring" tuner tips are period-correct. Heavy Aged Finish The Murphy Lab puts this guitar through a Heavy Aging process, simulating a half century of life on the road. That means plenty of buckle rash, plus light arm, neck and peghead wear. The lacquer checking patterns stick out prominently (and beautifully); the hardware is heavily-aged to match.
